Street Theatre: “A Carnival against Capital”
Tuesday, Sep. 26, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
University of Illinois Quad and Alma Mater
Performances and skits to expose the destruction of cultures, the environment, and democracy in the name of “economic liberalism.”
Teach-in: “What does the IMF have to do with MY Stuff?”
Tuesday, Sep. 26, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
McKinley Church Basement (Southwest corner of John and 5th Streets in Campustown)
Six brief presentations describing the World Bank and IMF, their role in sweatshop proliferation, their impacts on indigenous peoples and women, and the Jubliee 2000 campaign to forgive developing countries’ debts.
Election Forum: “Progressives Look at the November Elections”
Tuesday, Sep. 26, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
McKinley Church Basement
Community leaders will discuss local and national election issues and their perceptions of candidates for the 103rd and 104th legislative districts, the 15th U.S. Congressional District, and the U.S. Presidency. Presenters will address such issues as the environment, education, civil rights, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender rights, health care, and labor rights.
All events are free and open to the public. The events are being sponsored by the School for Designing a Society, the Performers’ Workshop Ensemble, the Socialist Forum, and the Champaign County Living Wage Association.
