Pirate Shortwave DXing Can Be Fun, too

In the spirit of last week’s post about broadcast radio DXing, Ragnar’s Pirates Week podcast from Dec. 27 features 45 minutes of his loggings of pirate shortwave broadcasts he received over the Christmas weekend at his cabin in the woods.

Some of it is pretty rough listening, in that pirate’s use low power levels and so reception can be spotty with consistently poor sound. Tuning in shortwave pirates requires time, patience, and a willingness to listen closely through the static. Because of this I only tune in pirates occasionally, and am generally less sucessful than Ragnar, who probably owns a much better rig. Listening in to this edition of Pirates Week lets us enjoy pirate shortwave listening with less of the effort and patience.
