According to Broadcasting and Cable, it looks like Democratic FCC Commissioner Johnathan Adelstein is getting renominated by President Bush for another five year term. After the election the prevailing wisdom was that Adelstein would not be renominated, since his chief sponsor, Sen. Tom Daschle, lost reelection, and because he has been such an outspoken advocate of media reform issues.
However, it appears that Adelstein must be popular amongst some Democratic Congressmen, since it appears that his renomination is a bit of quid pro quo between Senate Dems and the White House for a package of judicial and other nominations.
This is a small bit of good news, since Adelstein is one of the few FCC commissioners in recent years who has shown such clear, intelligent and sincere support for the public interest.
