The Unversity of Illinois has a very unfortunate and racist mascot known as “Chief” Illiniwek. There’s been a strong movement for the last ten years to convince the U to rid itself of this tarnishing mockery of Native Americans. Today a group of students and supporters staged a sit-in of the administration building, which apparently is still ongoing some fifteen hours later.
One of the sit-in participants has a blog and has been posting regular updates.
Wouldn’t it have been both cool and useful to have had such real-time documentation of the sit-ins that happened during the 1960s civil rights struggle? Or the later 60s anti-war protests?
