CDs are a poor "replacement" for music medium. Problem is that the 1982 technology does not sample music fast enough. Sounds of Guitar and Drums on tape definitely sound more original than CD. SACD hopefully should be more original. With the current sampling, CD really should be alternate format, and not the replacement format. Also CDs are not scatch proof. A replacement should have had all the flaws removed instead of bringing in new flaws. Costwise, a tape album costs 1/3 the price of a CD album. Download of 1000s of MP3 into tape is not studio representation as MP3 render voice well than instruments. Tape thus has its analog edge as of now.

Mitzi, the lens is sharpest in the center, with a fair amount of distortion at the edges. Stopping down to f/8 can sharpen things up a bit, but not a ton. By and large I expect stills from the CG10 that are better than most video cameras, but not as good as most digital cameras over $200.

Did you find the best settings for photo? For me seems to be blurry/out of focus.
Some people reccomend 3.5 manual settings for exposure, but I think is much too light in many situations.
Sry for my english.

Not much has changed at the Reader, so being owned by a private equity firm doesn't appear to be that big of a deal (at least it has money). Speaking purely as a longtime Reader reader: I think the paper's troubles started when they stopped publishing interesting stories, say, around a decade ago. I'm not just talking about the often-long cover stories -- I'm talking about all the little stories, too, the ones that appeared on the spread with the numbered events and the Our Towns. The editors/owners obviously made a choice to become another arts-and-culture rag, like hundreds of other alternative newsweeklies. Creative Loafing apparently had no idea it had purchased damaged goods and then proceeded to make a bad situation worse. Thankfully, the Reader still has Ben Joravsky and Michael Miner.

I'm proud to be the General Manager of WLFM...Smooth Jazz 87.7FM in Chicago. I read your write up about the WBEZ challenge.

Looking beyond the technical part of the argument, there has been a very positive impact that 87.7 has been making in Chicago since May 22nd. First, based on my 15 years at the previous Smooth Jazz station, there is a proven market for this format ...I would be happy to show you the over 1500 emails we have received.

More importantly, while most media companies are cutting back we are hiring...many of those we have hired or partnered up with (including me) are displaced, talented professionals who were loyal to the over leveraged, larger media companies. We just want the opportunity to work and hopefully make a difference.

WLFM LLC is an enterprising business that is looking to satisfy a very specific need in the Chicago radio market. We are responsible and serious broadcasters. So far...so good.

I would love to talk with you one-on-one...there's a very good story here...the more human side.

Thanks for listening...

I still VHS to record documentaries from my BTVision Box, (that's vision on demand, down-streamed through my broadband connection). Still well good enough quality to view even on a 40" plus TV.

Otherwise I use DVD and DVD DL to record HD quality in mkv format and play back on my Blu-ray player. Blu-ray movies getting cheaper though, so will start buying more pre-recorded ones and rely less on downloading/streaming, (less time consuming) and downloading/streaming has the problem of being only available for 24hrs on your hdd after you've purchased a movie.

Even thinking of purchasing an S-VHS vcr to store large amounts of drama's and documentries on, and VHS is still by far the most versitile recording format, you don't have to format or bloody finalize them for one thing!
