FCC Extends Comment Period on Media Ownership Studies

Matthew Lasar notes that the FCC responded to media reform groups’ petition to extend the deadline for public comment on the ten ownership studies it released as part of the current review of media ownership rules.

The Commission will use these studies to justify the changes it makes, so it is very important for members of the public, along with researchers and policy analysts, to evaluate their claims and take them to task. While the commissioners are free to ignore the public’s criticism, they do so at their own peril–like Mikey Powell once did.

I certainly haven’t had a chance to read them yet, though it’s been something on my back burner for a while. I guess I’m not alone, and now I’ve got an extension to get my butt in gear. I did read the 2002 reports, and they provided a strong clue that the game was rigged from the start.
